Microblog: Building Social Muscle

College = endless new situations: joining teams, navigating hookups, talking to professors. No wonder you sometimes feel like a baby deer learning to walk. That’s normal. Social skills = muscle—they get sore if you haven’t used them, but they grow with practice.

Ways to build your social muscle:

  • Shape it: Start small. Say hi after class → ask a professor a question → speak up in group → raise your hand in lecture.

  • Break the ice: Smile, look for small similarities, ask a question.

  • Practice in groups: Observe confident peers, mirror their body language, then work up to joining conversations.

You don’t need to “master” socializing overnight. Every rep counts.
