Introducing College is Fine’s Student Intern!
Hi Everyone!
My name is Emily, and I am the new intern for the College is Fine Podcast. I am currently a student at Fairfield University majoring in psychology with a minor in health studies. I am very passionate about educating college students on mental health and promoting greater acceptance and awareness. With that, I am super excited to be joining the College is Fine team!
Here are some fun facts about me:
Favorite song: My current favorite song is I Saw Your Face by Malcolm Todd. My favorite song of all time though is Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac.
Favorite thing to do outside of class: During my free time, I love to spend time with my friends! I also really love to exercise, particularly going on walks outside and attending spin classes.
Favorite thing about your school: I really love my jobs! I work for the Office of Student Engagement and Admissions Office. I really enjoy the communities that come along with them, and also helping create a fun college experience for students!
What’s your most embarrassing moment at school: One time on the way to class I tripped up the stairs. (yes, up). I ended up getting a concussion (oops).
Coping skill you use most often: When life feels too overwhelming and busy, I usually like to go for walks. I find that helps clear my head. I also find that listening to music helps ground me.
Something you wish you knew before college: I think something I wish I knew before college is how much I would change. Now that I am a senior, I look back at my freshman self and see how much more independent and confident I have become. It’s really amazing to see how much college helps you grow!
How has social media influenced your college experience: I feel as though social media is a big part of my college experience. I have found that a lot of things are communicated through social media (club meetings, dining hall hours, etc). I also met one of my best friends by reaching out to her on Instagram. However, there are times when social media can become overwhelming, and you find yourself comparing your experience to others. It’s important to realize that social media is not always reality, and everyone’s journey is different.
If you could go back in time, what’s one piece of advice you would give your freshman self: As Billy Joel says, “slow down, you’re doing fine.” College is short, and goes by in a blink of an eye. It’s ok to not have everything figured out all of the time, just enjoy the journey and trust that everything is going to be ok!
I cannot wait to work with Dr. Seidler and Dr. Olivo on this podcast, and be part of a project with such an inspiring and important message!
